Cryopreservation, or freezing, of surplus embryos is
performed so that an IVF patient who doesn't get pregnant with the
fresh cycle, or wants to have another child year later, can have available
embryos without going through the ovulation induction process again.
The process of freezing sperm allows men undergoing cancer treatment
or other therapies that might result in sterility to father their
own biological children in the future. Frozen sperm can remain viable
almost indefinitely if properly stored. |
